On Saturday 11th July 2020, Peng Huoth Group was honored to collaborate with Ministry of Environment to raise awareness of “WE FIRST” Project regarding waste management among residents of Borey Peng Huoth in the Star Platinum (Boeung Snor), located in Sangkat Niroth, Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh with presence of H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Secretary of State, Ministry of Environment. This project mainly focuses on promoting environment protection, particularly, the proper separation and storing of garbage (kitchen waste, plastic waste, hazardous waste).
On that occasion, His Excellency Neth Pheaktra, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment, mentioned about the benefits of proper separation and storing of garbage and the impact of dumping. At the same time, H.E. stated that in a year, Cambodia produces about 4 million tons of garbage, which is more than 10,000 tons of garbage per day across the country. Separately, In Phnom Penh, garbage between 2,700 and 3,000 tons is generated per day, and of which 57.40% is food waste, 18.10% is plastic bag waste, 6% is paper waste and rubber and 0.2% is leather waste, while grass, wood, fabric, stone and others accounted for 18.30%. He also emphasized that the waste is economically valuable if we participate in proper separation and sorting of garbage and the amount of garbage transported to the landfill will be reduced and some of them can be recycled and reused. On the other hands, Organic waste which is food waste can be processed into compost to use on other crops or plants.
Residents of Borey Peng Huoth Project are excited and happy to participate in the proper separation of garbage according to the instructions of WE FIRST Colleagues. Moreover, we do hope that all residents of Borey Peng Huoth Project, as well as people across Cambodia will take care of the environment by reducing the use of plastic bags and starting to properly separate and store garbage.
